Bondi, NSW: Kurtley Beale charged with sexual assault

Rugby star Kurtley Beale has been charged with sexual assault in Sydney’s east last year.

Beale was arrested on Friday afternoon after leaving Waratah’s training and questioned for several hours at Waverley Police Station.

He has now been charged with two counts of sexually touch another person without consent, incite another to sexually touch them without consent and sexual intercourse without consent.

The 33-year-old has been refused bail and will before Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.

Police allege a 28-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at a pub on Beach Road in Bondi on December 17.

Officers in the Tweed/Byron District received a report following the incident, and detectives from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command then launched Strike Force Titheradge to investigate the allegation.

Mr Beale was arrested when police stopped his car on Rainbow Street, Kingsford, just before 2:30pm on Friday

Earlier, Rugby Australia, the NSW Waratahs and the Rugby Union Players Association said they were “aware of the situation involving Kurtley Beale”.

“As this is a police matter, and we understand there has been no charge made, we will be making no further comment at this time,” the joint statement said.

Mr Beale made his Wallabies debut in 2009 and has played 95 Tests for Australia. He recently rejoined the Waratahs for the 2023 Super Rugby Season after a stint in France.
