Pep Guardiola slams Manchester City players and fans after Tottenham win: All the key quotes from explosive interviews

Manchester City came from two goals down to beat Tottenham 4-2 on Thursday night and avoid falling further behind Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

Pep Guardiola’s side conceded two quick goals just before halftime at the Etihad but responded brilliantly after the break as they scored three themselves inside 20 minutes.

Riyad Mahrez was the spark for City in the second half as City claimed a vital three points to stay within five points of the Gunners, who do still have a game in hand.

Despite the result, Guardiola was left less than impressed by his team’s performance and the reaction from City’s fans at times.

The Sporting News wraps up some his best quotes below.

Guardiola on Man City’s performance vs Tottenham

“Playing with this lack of passion, this season I can announce we are not going to win anything. We were lucky today,” Guardiola told beIN Sports post-match.

“No fire inside, no guts…it’s comfortable so we need to bring back our energy and positive way to be together.

“We are passive in many, many things. There is something that must come from inside and it’s not coming.

“They have to realise themselves, I’m not their fathers, they have to do it themselves.”

“I want a reaction, from the whole club, everyone,” Guardiola added in his post-match press conference.

“We’re a happy flowers team. I don’t want to be happy flowers. I want to beat Arsenal. If we play that way, Arsenal will beat us.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, Guardiola also said: “We are far away from the team we were.

“I don’t recognise my team. My team always had passion, had more desire than everyone…”

Guardiola on Man City fans

“Our fans were silent for 45 minutes,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“They booed because we were losing but in the second half we played good, we had more chances. Maybe it’s the same with our team, maybe we are so comfortable with winning four Premier Leagues in five years.

“It’s my duty, it’s my job. I want my fans back, I want my fans that are here – not my away fans, they are the best – but my fans here to support every corner and every action, because Tottenham are one of the toughest opponents I’ve ever faced.”

“They have the fire,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“For two decades they haven’t won the Premier League and every player knows they’ll be in history – like we felt when we won the first Premier League.”
