Practice 5 / Top Ten Shootout, 2022 V8 supercars championship, highlights, latest news

The top-10 shootout for the Bathurst 1000 has been cancelled for the first time in its 44-year history.

The forecast had predicted the weather would be at its worst on Saturday afternoon for most of the week, and the forecast delivered in spades.

The rain started falling just as the Toyota 86 race started following Supercars practice six, and only worsened over the next half an hour.

The Carrera Cup race after the Toyotas was the first to be cancelled, before the Dunlop Series followed suit.

Hope remained for the top-10 shootout as rain began to ease, but drainage issues on the pit and Mountain Straights left Motorsport Australia little choice.

The final decision was made at 4.55pm – 10 minutes before the scheduled start of the shootout.

Shortly after the decision, the rain got heavier again and the flooding only worsened.

The shootout will not be rescheduled, for the morning, meaning Cameron Waters and James Moffat will start on pole position for tomorrow’s Bathurst 1000.
