Terrifying moment gunman opens fire at US school basketball game, Oklahoma City high school, one person shot

An Oklahoma City area high school was left shocked after an 18-year-old shooter opened fire after a Del City High School game.

The commentators on a live stream were seen ducking for cover and spectators fleeing for the exits after Del City defeated Millwood 62-58 in the high school match.

A man was shot and local police confirmed an unnamed male had been taken to hospital and was listed in a stable condition.

Police also caught the shooter and the Fox News affiliate in Oklahoma City reported the suspect was transported to Oklahoma County Detention Centre on one count of shooting with intent to kill.

It led to the terrifying scenes where the commentators were wrapping the game before the shot rung out.

The commentators quickly threw to break but the footage showed people fleeing behind their position.

Del City High School principal Steve Gillaland released a statement after the shooting.

“After the completion of the boys basketball game against Millwood High School, a fight occurred and gunshots were fired inside the field house,” the statement read.

“The Del City Police Department is onsite and investigating the incident.”

Major Brad Cowden of the Del City Police said he’d never seen an incident like it.

“I’ve been here for 13 years and this is the first incident like this, that we’ve had at Del City High School,” Cowden said.

“It’s unfortunate that people were coming to enjoy a game and their safety was jeopardised because of somebody that was careless.

“While a lot of people had already left because the game had concluded there were still several hundred people still inside the facility at that time.

“Once officers were able to get the majority of the people out of the building, that’s when they determined there was also a crime scene outside where an additional shooting had occurred, we believe that it was a continuation of the one that occurred inside.”
